IRDA recently appointed Former Finance Secretary Debasish Panda as the chairman of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDA) for a period of three years.

"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has recently approved the appointment of Shri Debasish Panda, Indian Adminstrative Officer (UP Batch-1987) (Retd.), former Secretary of Department of Financial Services to the post Chairperson, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) for a period of 03 years from the date of takeover of the charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier," according to the official statement.
The 1987-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre retired as Secretary in January this year after a two-year stint. He will fill the seat of IRDA Chairman that has been lying vacant after Mr Subhash Chandra Khuntia completed his term in May 2021.
Under the Subhash Chandra Khuntia Ex Chairman of IRDA, the Indian Insurance Industry made more compliant with international standards. The new code of accounting also implemented in insurance industry.

This year LIC IPO will change the dynamic of insurance industry and more compliant and regulations will there.
The change in equity structure of LIC after IPO and profit orientation in order to maintain the shareholders confidence will create new challenge for IRDA newly appointed Chairman Mr Debasish Panda to protect the interest of Policy holders.
The restoration of pricing of Term Insurance and Health Insurance in post covid era will big expectation from public. Index linked pension plan and Basic health plan will also in the list of expectations.
